Of course, Mr. Stewart really needs no introduction, his finesse is well known even today, and it shines through in today's feature.
Mr. Smith is a young, naive citizen who just wants to do right by his Country. He's patriotic, he's idealistic, he loves his country and respects his fellow man.
When he gets a chance to become a Senator, he steps into the role with all these wonderful ideas of how he's going to save everyone and the government too, but has a rude awakening when he realizes that the people he thought he could trust are nothing but corrupt politicians who just want to make a buck.
Not one to give up, though, Mr. Smith makes a grandstand "play" that made me ask, "How'd he do that???!" That's right. During Session, he takes the floor for over 24 hours as a stalling tactic - and I had to squirm just watching that and thinking to myself, "What if he has to go to the bathroom or something?!" How can anyone possibly hold it that long without at least squirming a little?
But Mr. Smith did it!
Funny thing about movies - the characters never need to load their weapons in a gunfight, there's always a cab right there to hail, and they never seem to have to go to the bathroom! Ah, yes, let's hear it for Hollywood!
TIDE Loads of Hope visits areas hit by disasters - flooding, hurricanes, earthquakes, and so on - and helps people with their laundry. Their brightly colored truck is basically a traveling laundromat staffed with workers (I don't know whether they are paid or volunteer) and is capable of washing and drying 300 wash loads per day!
Currently they are in Pikeville, KY - at Food City, 2136 South Mayo Trail, Pikeville, KY, 41501.
If you're in that area and are affected by the flooding, please let them help you with your laundry. Simply drop it off and pick it up later - lovingly washed, dried, and folded.
You can visit the TIDE Loads of Hope website to read more about them and see pictures of the truck, too.
There are a couple of ways you can show your support - purchase a bottle of TIDE with a yellow cap and register the cap's code on line and $1.00 for every one of those goes towards Loads of Hope. You can also purchase TIDE Vintage T-Shirts in a variety of bright, happy colors. These are really cool looking T-Shirts, I'm going to order some for myself and my kids this coming payday.
Folks, it's not every day that I promote commercial products or relief programs, but this is one that I can't say enough about because of the compassion it shows and the joy it brings to people. I've never been in a situation where my community needed Loads of Hope, but it's heartwarming to know that they are there blessing people by shining a light for them in the darkness of the nightmare of natural disasters.
TIDE Loads of Hope isn't just about laundry, it's about people reaching out and helping other people in their time of need; it's about hope, and that's something this world can stand to see a lot more of.
Thanks, TIDE! Keep up the good work, and may God bless every one of the Loads of Hope helpers - past, present, and future.
