What happens when a naive backwoods boy from Georgia is drafted into the military? Complete hilarity, that’s what!

Andy Griffith and Nick Adams star as Privates Stockdale and Whitledge in this gut busting comedy about a couple of country boys drafted into the Air Force. Myron McCormick also stars as Sgt. King, a manipulative NCO who repeatedly attempts to use Private Stockdale’s gullibility to his advantage only to have it backfire on himself.

Private Whitledge is embarrassed to be in the Air Force, he wants to be in the Infantry, and he wants his buddy Private Stockdale with him. When they are transferred, so is their Sergeant, who has been demoted to Private.

All hell breaks loose when Stockdale and Whitledge end up on a plane headed in the wrong direction, and there’s no radio operator on board.

You’ll find Don Knotts in this film, too, in a small role as Cpl Brown.
