Mysterious, romantic and wacky, this award winning classic worth checking out!
Greta Garbo, John Barrymore, Lionel Barrymore, Joan Crawford, Jean Hersholt, and Wallace Beery are cast together in an eclectic sort of tale about various guests at the Grand Hotel in Berlin. The guests hail from various backgrounds and have different stories of their own.
Garbo is a prima ballerina who isn't very popular - she's about ready to give up on her career. She meets a con-man known as The Baron - he's desperate for money. The two fall in love, and when she finds out he's not who he says he is, she loves him anyway.
Joan Crawford plays a stenographer hired by a corporate officer. She, too, seems to be sweet on the Baron, but because she needs the money agrees to take a job with the corporate officer who is a bit of a womanizer.
The corporate officer happens to be the boss of another guest - who is far from rich, but is dying and is being financially taken care of by the Baron.
The Baron is there on a mission to steal the jewels of the prima ballerina that he has fallen in love with, apparently because he owes some mobster some cash.
So this story seems to connect all these guests who happen to all be in the same place at the same time creating a dramatic yet humorous story to the silver screen and adding a touch of mystery.
This fun classic, in which you hear Garbo's famous line, "I just want to be alone" is now available on BluRay at wbshop.com.
